Today we experienced the Athabasca Glacier up close and
personal! We rode a snow bus with soft eight-foot
tall tires very slowly, down onto the glacier.
There were glaciers on all sides of us and the air was cool. By definition a glacier must be 25 acres in
size, 100 feet thick and moving.
There
was a small stream carrying the snowmelt from the glacier. We were told that as glaciers move they carve
u-shaped valleys, leaving moraines of rock and debris as they recede. It was an awesome experience!
